'Standard form construction contracts in Australia: Insights into current practice' with Professor John Sharkey AM and Matthew Bell.

In late 2013, Melbourne Law School's construction law program, with the support of the Society of Construction Law Australia, launched a research project into the use of standard forms of contract in the Australian construction industry.

The project was undertaken by a research team led by Professor John Sharkey AM and Matthew Bell. The research project involved a web-based survey and interviews with construction industry stakeholders. More than 300 people participated, reporting on close to 400 projects undertaken throughout Australia and across the spectrum of contract types and values.

The participants (which included a number of BDPS members) represented a wide range of perspectives and experience, including construction managers, architects, lawyers and other industry professionals.

At this Discussion Night, John and Matthew will outline the key findings of this research project, along with the implications these findings raise for the ongoing debate over the role and use of standard forms in the Australian construction industry.

RSVP by Thursday 5th June.
